Trump’s Plan for Social Security Sparks Fury
"Protests have swept across the U.S., with thousands gathering in “Hands Off!” rallies against policies from President Donald Trump’s administration. Nationwide events are responding to concerns over cuts to Social Security, education, healthcare, and public services. The rallies have included participants of all backgrounds advocating for democracy and equal rights. So far, the Social Security Administration (SSA) has announced updates regarding cutbacks and changes to about 70 million Americans. The administration is undergoing workforce reductions, department closures, and modifications as a result of the Trump administration and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Rally organizers jointly stated, “With Trump and congressional Republicans doubling down on their agenda to gut essential services, everyday Americans are sending a clear message: Take your hands off our healthcare, our Social Security, our civil rights, our freedom, and our education.”
At the Arizona Capitol, thousands protested public service threats, while in Florida, over 2,000 demonstrators pushed similar concerns. In New Jersey, senior citizens rallied to emphasize the impact of planned cuts on Medicare and Social Security.
Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) stated, “They say, though, well, the number of courts striking down Trump’s policies is completely unprecedented. Well, so what? That’s only because the number of his illegal actions are completely unprecedented.”
Raskin added, “The judges are doing their jobs. They’re doing their jobs. Let’s tell MAGA what democratic movements all over the world tell the dictators of the world: Hands off the courts! Hands off the courts!”
Major gatherings took place in Washington, D.C., where protesters on the National Mall demanded greater government accountability. Fifth Avenue in New York City saw thousands marching for social justice.
In Milwaukee, large groups assembled outside the Federal Building, and in Columbus, hundreds have rallied on the Statehouse steps. Cincinnati’s Washington Park hosted over 2,000 participants in protests targeting Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency.
